back to school again

Fall 2043 - 2043/2044 school update

Providence Elementary School

Rose Wilder is very excited to start kindergarten and meet other kids her own age.

There are four girls in the kindergarten class this year: Rose, Anna and Kat Jitkamusal, and Veronica Bertoni. So far the girls seem to get along well. Rose and Anna both love to draw, whereas Kat and Veronica prefer playing with blocks.

The twins Anna and Kat stick together pretty tightly, so Rose mostly plays with Veronica.

Rose and Veronica love practicing headstands and cartwheels together.

Samantha Ottomas' class is very small this year, just three first graders: Charlotte Long, her grandson Sean Ottomas, and Connor Roseland.

Sean and Connor are always getting in trouble for running and playing in the hallway.

Sean likes having a boy his own age to play with, but the Roselands live so far out of town, it's hard for them to see each other outside of school.

Ten-year-old Julie Kim is getting tired of being in elementary school with the little kids.

She prefers hanging out with the older kids like Avery Myers.

After Julie's parents' divorce and Avery's dad's death, it's nice for them to have a friend who understands what they've been though.

Providence High School

Tommy's class has four new seventh graders this year: Jamie Smith, Jodie and Sadie Stanton, and Dylan Wright. Tommy is trying to make sure all of them are handling the transition to high school well.

On top of his teaching duties, Tommy has started a robotics club. The kids in the club seem to like playing with the equipment and learning to make robots.

But unfortunately Libby Stanton and Laura Wilder can't stop fighting.

Libby doesn't really like any of the kids in the robotics club. Jackson Cooper has been trying to get her attention, but she prefers to spend her time hanging out with her best friend John Smith.

Tommy catches the girls arguing on the playground and runs over to break things up.

"You shouldn't fight with Laura," John says. "Just ignore her."

"Why? She deserves it, she's a jerk."

"Why do you care if I fight with her anyway?" Libby asks. "Do you like her or something?"

"I don't like her, I like you. I mean, I just don't want to see you get into trouble over her," John says.

Jamie Smith has always been very active, and now that she's in seventh grade she's gotten involved in lots of school sports. Most days she stays late after school to shoot hoops with Donna Bertoni.

Sometimes she runs into Christopher Long while she's shooting hoops. All of the seventh grade girls agree that Christopher is the cutest guy in high school.

"That was a great shot you made," Jamie says.

"Thanks. Your shots are looking good too."

Tom Smith doesn't seem thrilled to see Christopher hanging out with his little sister. "Come on Jamie," Tom says, "it's time to go home."

I couldn't find a way to work this picture into the story, but I love that Sadie wandered over while Jamie was talking to Christopher. It really seemed like something a seventh grader would do as an excuse to talk to a hot upperclassman.

Christopher's pretty confused by all of these girls. He wants to go on a date with both Jamie and Sadie, but he doesn't want to break up with Gabrielle. He and Sadie have a really high attraction, but right now he's too old for her. Maybe in a few years...

John, I don't think it's a good idea to tell the girl you like that her mom is hot.

  1. Aw, Sadie's little crush on Christopher is so realistic! I remember having a crush on a guy in Year 10 when I was in Year 7...and ALL the girls in my class liked him too.

  3. Awww, Sadie... cute, and realistic. I lol'd at Christopher's wants, too... I can understand being confused, at his age.
