May 2035 - Julien and Melissa Cooke are 47, Anthony is 17, Adrien is 5, Clara Long and Anjali Ramaswami are 16.
Adrien is in kindergarten this year, and Anthony is a senior in high school. It's the last year before Anthony goes to college, and he's been trying to spend a lot of time with Adrien before he leaves.
Adrien has started playing the violin, and Anthony often watches him practice and gives him tips.
With Anthony heading to college next year, Julien and Melissa are really worried about money. The restaurant is doing very well. On top of that, Julien writes a food column for the paper, and Melissa gives financial advice online.
Adrien has been looking forward to going to college for a long time, but now he's a little hesitant to go. He's been friends with Anjali
since they were kids, and a few months ago they started dating.
He thinks she's the coolest girl he's ever met, smart and interesting and a science nerd like him.
Plus the kissing is pretty great too.
But their relationship puts a strain on their friendship with Clara. The three of them used to be good friends, but Clara had a crush on Anthony too, and she's pretty jealous that he's dating Anjali.
He invites her over one afternoon to hang out to try to patch things up.
"So how's your girlfriend?" Clara asks snidely.
"Um, she's fine. So I guess you two still aren't talking."
"Well you two are joined at the hip now. She doesn't need to talk to me anymore."
"That's not true. We both still want to be your friend." She doesn't say anything, so Anthony plunges ahead, "I hope you want us to be friends, but I understand if you don't. I'm sorry we hurt your feelings."
Clara sighs. "It's okay. And I do want to be friends with you guys."
"So we're okay?" Anthony asks.
"Yeah, we're okay."
"So have you been stargazing recently?" he asks Clara, eager to change the subject.
Talking about astronomy always cheers her up. "Yeah, almost every night. I saw a comet a few nights ago."
I'm glad Anthony and Clara were able to talk. It's never fun being the odd one out when two of your friends suddenly start dating, especially if you had a crush on the guy too. :( I hope the three of them are able to patch up their friendship!
ReplyDeleteI hope things work out for them too. I wasn't planning to get Anthony and Anjali together. They have two bolts, but he also has two bolts with Clara (slightly lower). But then the three of them went to the movie theater, and he flirted with Anjali, and Clara flipped out and slapped him. I download a game mod so they wouldn't get jealous unless they were in a relationship, but maybe it doesn't work for teenagers. It makes sense, though, that she would be jealous that her friends are dating. Hopefully things will work out and Clara will find a new guy.
